Prevent Plumbing Problems Primer

Problems with your plumbing can happen anytime.

When they do, you need to know if you can take care of it yourself, or if you need to call in an expert. While we at Nebrasky are honored to be called to help you anytime, here are a few tips to avoid making that service call for simple things.

Avoid clogged drains
Don’t pour grease down the drain so you don’t cause a grease buildup. Another cause for clogs is hair. To prevent hair from clogging your drains, put strainers in the tub and shower to capture the hair before it can go down the drain.

Make sure your outdoor faucets don’t freeze up in the winter.
Detach all hoses prior to the very first freeze. Then close the shutoff valve and turn on the faucet to bleed any remaining water in the lines. When it warms up in the spring, turn the water back on.

Need to replace the washer in your sink?
Make sure to get the correct replacement. Simply take out the defective washer and take it with you to the store.

Clean your faucet’s aerator from time to time.
The problem could be lime buildup, which could cause a water leak or low water pressure. To clean an aerator, you can unscrew it from the faucet, dip a brush into vinegar, and use the brush to clean it.

These are just a few things you can do yourself. More complicated issues? Call the experts at Nebrasky Plumbing, Heating and Cooling to take care of it!
