Space Heater Safety Tips

As the days get colder and the snow continues to fall we don’t blame you for wanting to add some extra warmth to your home. Space heaters are a great tool for keeping yourself comfortable during the winter months, but they can be very dangerous if not used properly. Here are some tips on how to use space heaters safely and effectively:

  • Never leave your space heater unattended
  • Follow the manufacturer’s directions and warnings from your space heater
  • Be sure your fire alarms are working before considering use of a space heater
  • Do not let children around your space heater
  • Keep space heater at least three feet away from anything flammable
  • Do not plug space heaters into extension cords; plug directly into the outlet on your wall for safest usage
  • Place space heater on a level surface that is not carpeting unless otherwise instructed
  • Unplug your space heater and store safely when not in use
