Is your A/C unit blowing warm air? Keep cool – there are many different factors that could be causing the system to malfunction. Some of these issues are easy DIY fixes that can be handled without the help of a professional.
Firstly, be sure to check your thermostat to assure that it is set to cool. An accidental bump or children tampering with the setting can result in your thermostat being set to warm or the temperature being set too high. Additionally, understand that “on” does not always mean that cool air is being circulated. While the fan may be blowing air through your vents, if the temperature is set too high, your unit is not working to cool the air.
Still experiencing trouble? Your outside unit may need to be cleaned. Leaves, dirt and debris can keep your A/C from properly cooling your home. Use a hose on a low-pressure setting or a broom to clean any visible dirt or debris from the outside unit. Keep grass tame around the area and remove any excess shrubbery to avoid the restriction of airflow.
If this does not resolve the issue, your air filter may need to be replaced. This filter is responsible for catching dust and debris; over time, as it becomes dirty, cooling effectiveness is reduced. Check your filter regularly to ensure your system is working at its best.
If the unit is still faulty, it may be time to bring in a professional. An early repair may save you from needing to replace your entire A/C unit.
